The journey of life consists of sub-journeys. And sometimes we are impatient to get to the next milestone or sometimes the present sub-journey is so good we are loathing its end. Also people think its clever to save petrol for the next sub-journey by opting for the most feasible route, the destination requiring the least activation energy ( physical chemistry 101, yawn..). Its part of being prepared for adversity and routes that may demand more petrol.
And I looked it up on google and sub-journey doesn't seem to be in the dictionary per se but you must have understood the context of the first few sentences, or for that matter, the whole thing. To be politically correct petrol has been used synonymously for fuel for transport be it diesel, kerosene or vegetable oil (ya thats rite).
Because I'm soft like that :)
